Welcome to the Canaries
![]() |
We as a pre-school, make our new little Canaries feel comfortable, safe, and secure as they begin to flutter their wings of independence. These young children come to us as toddlers and leave as little people! A lot of maturity and development take place during the two-year-old time.
The Canaries' day is a balance of structured play, pre-academic exposure and non-directed socialization activities. All Canaries need to arrive by 8:45! The scheduled morning begins at 8:50 with a snack and greetings! Our circle-time starts at 9:00 a.m. Circle-time is an interactive group experience, with sharing, songs, stories, and games!
At 9:30 children are divided into small groups and rotate through the following array of activities:
- Lesson, Language and Literature
- Bikes, Blocks, Bubbles and Buddies
- Movement, , Motor-skill enhancements and Manipulatives
- Arts & Crafts, Cooking and Creative Play
After the abundance of fun filled ventures, Canaries clean up for LUNCH! Lunch is served at 11:45. Half-day children wave goodbye by 12:00 p.m. and the rest of the Canaries close their tired eyes until 2:30 p.m. Afternoon snack is served at 3:00 p.m., and then the afternoon activities begin! Children have outside playtime, teacher directed movement, creative play and stories!
New Canaries need to provide diapers, wipes, extra clothing and if ready little underwear! YES, we do help potty-train, our little birds! Please be sure to provide a crib sheet and blanket if your child will be napping here!
The Canaries take frequent walking trips throughout the neighborhood! This special opportunity exposes your child to new and interesting experiences as well as initiating the concept of “group” rules and following directions. A schedule of events is posted weekly!
The number to the Canary House is (858) 272-8797. Please call us with any questions, concerns or comments. We also appreciate a phone call if your child has an illness, will be absent, or if your family is running late! Please be sure to sign your child in and out each day! This is a licensing requirement and is frequently checked.
Our main goal is to instill a positive self-image in your child by providing a secure and stimulating learning environment with both interactive and independent play closely supervised by supportive and caring adults!
